Electric Utilities
The electric power industry has undergone drastic changes in the way it conducts business
after deregulation. Mergers, downsizing, and cost cutting have been key strategies in
preparing for the new order of business. Part of this this reorganization includes maintaining,
upgrading and installing underground cable with the utmost attention to safety, quality, and
economy. INFRATECH meets the challenge, providing very competitive rates for trenchless
placement while at the same time maintaing superb safety performance.

Telecommunication & Broadband
The telecommunications industry has changed dramatically since deregulation. An information
superhighway is under construction to serve the seemingly insatiable appetite for speed and
capacity in transmitting and receiving data. Thousands of miles of fiber optic cable are being
installed underground to serve this need. The distinction between offering Cable TV services
and conventional phone service is blurring. Phone companies are now supplying TV services
and CATV companies are now providing telephone services. The evolution continues.

Often, installations of underground cable and fiber systems are performed in urban and
developed areas. Trenchless construction
by INFRATECH is superior to installing by
conventional open cut methods of construction.

Water & Sewer
Technological advances have drastically improved the way Water and Sewer Systems are
installed, upgraded, maintained and repaired. Recent enhancements for long neglected
pipelines include pipe bursting, spot repair, sliplining and trenchless placement.

Trenchless placement by directional drilling has not been emphasized until recently due to
material constraints. Mechanical and Bell Joint Ductile Iron and Bell, Mechanical and Glued
joint PVC do not generally lend themselves to placement by directional drilling. Recent
advances in the use of polyethylene for water and sewer systems has made directional drilling
placement a cost effective alternative to open cut methods of construction. Additionally,
advances in pressure collection systems have made trenchless placement a preferred method
in congested areas. There has also been progress made in the connection of PE to existing
Ductile Iron and PVC systems. Restrained Joint PVC piping has recently been introduced to
the trenchless market and will allow PVC to be utilized where required. This will allow utilities
to use trenchless installation methods and be able maintain and repair these systems utilizing
existing methods.

Environmental Remediation
In-Situ Remediation of subsurface pollutants has become the preferred method for cleaning up
contaminated industrial sites around the country. Previously, entire areas were excavated and
the waste transported to hazardous dumps. Costs associated with these operations are
enormous. Vertical vacuum wells were subsequently used for clean-up at these sites. Later
developments showed that placement of horizontal wells by directional drilling was more
effective in cleaning larger areas. Typically one horizontal well can be placed for every six
vertical wells.
INFRATECH offers a full range of services from install only to turnkey
design-build
.

Specialty Projects
Though INFRATECH believes it's greatest value to a customer is approaching a project with
trenchless as the predominant method of installation, there are times when conventional
methods are better suited.Open areas lend themselves to plowing, solid rock areas to
excavating with a backhoe. In these instances
INFRATECH still makes an impact on costs in
assisting with crossings and getting cable and conduit into areas not possible by conventional
methods.
